Doggie Allergies – Advice?

The family got a new puppy last weekend, and one of my family members is having some allergic symptoms. The feeling itchy could be tolerated, but his asthma getting severely worse so he has trouble breathing is a serious issue. I am hoping the allergist (who will be called on Monday) will have ideas – the idea of having to get rid of my “new baby” is breaking my heart.
Do any of you have experience with SEVERE breathing allergies to dogs, and is it something you’ve been able to fix/control?
Any useful input appreciated. Thanks!

My allergies and asthma are due to the fact that when I moved in with my now husband, he had a cat, he also had a dog and so did I. I became very sick and went to the Dr. He put me on steroids and Advair, which I inhale twice a day, the steroids were short term, Advair helps me sooo much. Also he put me on a prescription medication for allergies, called Zyrtec, it’s all been very helpful.
