Help Me Get Rid of Anxiety…? or Some Advice?
I have struggled with huge anxiety for years now and I can’t deal with anymore. I need to somehow get rid of it. I don’t know where to start though, I do have a therapist and I suppose she could write me a prescription for anxiety medicine but I don’t want to resort to taking medication for it. I want to know how to get rid of anxiety with out medicine. I’m not talking about the type of anxiety that someone gets when they break a vase that wasn’t theirs. I’m talking about the type of anxiety that is out of control. For instance, waiting out for a bus gets me nauseas and I don’t know why. Sitting here right now in my colleges computer lab I have a stomach ache because I have to meet a friend at 2:30 and I haven’t decided whether or not I should go in town or home. My anxiety is out of control, I don’t show it but on the inside I freak out about everything and I’ve tried to just “relax” but nothing seems to work. When I’m feeling anxious I get a stomach ache (which sometimes leads to physical sickness), my hands tremble, I don’t think straight, I obsess (not on purpose) about how things will pan out during the day or even week, my heart seems to get a sinking feeling, I start to sweat and I bite my fingernails. These are all for no real threatening reasons. It could be caused by just having to sit next to someone who I don’t know in a library.
so, can I have some information on how to get rid of this anxiety without medication? are there non-medicinal alternatives for anxiety like mine?
I don’t know if this matters in some advice you might give me but I am nineteen years old (twenty in November).
Thanks
Kasey

Maybe your stressed out, try drinking some tea or getting a massage. If you start having anxiety out in public, just take deep breaths.
you need a release… do something that you and your body enjoys.. hot cocoa as an example… or… anything that will help you relax and give your body the nourishment it needs to feel a sense of enjoyment.
The kind of anxiety you have could very well be dealt with through yoga and meditation. Yoga is not so much exercise for fitness (although it can do that) but more about practicing gentle stretches and postures while doing deep breathing and releasing stress. And the good thing about yoga is that it is very much about being gentle with yourself. For every posture, there is a modification according to your level–you are not expected to or required to compete or to do that which you are not ready to do. I’ve had the exact kind of anxiety that you are describing for years (I’m 43). When I was in my 30’s, on a whim, I went to a local yoga class. I couldn’t believe how easy it was and how relaxed I felt after the first class. You could attend classes and also get home videos so that you don’t have to always pay for extra classes and can do it at home. All you would need is a mat and some pillows. Doing yoga over a period of time, retrains you to react to everyday situations in a more calmed manner. It changes the way you approach life situations and the way you think so that the benefits are there even when you aren’t doing a session. I’ve also gone to local meditation sessions–another thing that teaches deep breathing and calming of the mind. In order to avert anxiety, you have to practice thinking and doing things differently and yoga and meditation help you do that. Do a local Yahoo search for classes in your area. I promise it will change your life.
