A genuine question for Muslims, will you please clarify this?
Holy Koran, Sura 4 :- Women (Al-Nisa’)
Very briefly and not wishing to mis translate there is a section that says (in effect):-
‘Men have authority over Women because Allah has made the one superior to the others, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good Women are obedient, they guard their unseen parts because Allah has guarded them.
As for those from whom you fear disobedience admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.
Then if they obey you , take no futher action against them. Allah is high, supreme.
This Sura also gives good advise on mending broken marriage relationships etc.
Now my question is does all this still apply, or has the English translator ‘lost’ something in translation?
Whenever I have asked Muslim friends this type of question they have nearly always said that if the Holy Koran is not read and undersood in Arabic then the whole message is missed.
Is this correct??

This has to be one of the most controversial verses in the Qu’ran among non-muslims. This ayat when you read it in arabic, you understand it better and more clearly. When the ayat says “beat”, it doesn’t actually mean to beat your wife furiously. Scholars have said to “beat” means to lightly tap your wife on the shoulder (NOT IN THE FACE) is she is acting disobediant with a stick no larger in diameter and length of a meswak ( a meswak is basically a small stick as small as a twig or sometimes even smaller)

Thanks for asking about this verse. I think this verse does get misunderstood of its simple context. If you understand it deeply, you would most likely agree with it.
Ok it is saying that men are guardians over women because they provide for them with their wealth and that Allah (SWT) has made one superior than the other.
What it’s talking about is in maintenance. Allah (SWT) has made man more superior in maintenance because he is the leader of the house who provides food, clothing and shelter for his wives and children. Not leader in a way where he beats them, tortures them, etc. as the media and the west put it.
The next part is talking about a disobedient woman and what action a husband can take if his wife is disobedient and stubborn. He should first stay quiet to show his anger and if she still doesn’t turn to him, then he should sleep separately from her to make her aware of his anger. If she still doesn’t listen then he can (lightly) beat her where no marks should be left on her body. Compare that to how women are treated in other societies. This is the law regarding the spouses’ relationships. If some Muslims do not adhere to it out of ignorance shouldn’t be a example of Islam.
Yes this does definitely apply even now because it’s the law of the Qur’an. Qur’an is for all ages and time.

also women should respect their husbands and do what they asked them to do but if it is not wrong
if the woman make something wrong he should talk with her and explain for her what wrong she made if she didn’t respond he will aware her and he will left her for a while to let her thinking about what she did if she didn’t respond he could beat her but its not allow for him to hurt her
if they still in fight then they should call a person from his wife’s side and from his side to try to solve the problem between them

First of all i will suggest ya to goto those who knows….i mean go and ask a muslim scholar…i don’t know from where did ya got this transilation but according to the Quran which i have the transilation is this ..
[004:034] Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because God has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband’s) absence what God would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For God is Most High, great (above you all).
remember there are some arabic words which are difficult to transilate……the word for beating is different…the beating which the quran mention is the kinda of lightly beating forexample if i beat some1 with maswaak…(the stick which is in size of a pen) lightly …. which don’t make a mark on body.

well mr. this aya talks about two parts :
1.the beating of the wife right??ok,
This verse has been greatly misconceived. Many people take it to allow wife beating, but this is not a correct interpretation of the verse. Islam is a whole system, so you cannot isolate one point without considering all other related issues. When the setting is not taken into account, it distorts and falsifies the original meaning. We should also keep in mind that the original Arabic wording of the Qur’an is the only authentic source of meaning. If one relies on the translation alone, one is likely to misunderstand it.
The Arabic verb daraba is better understood as “hit” rather than “beat” (which means repeated hard hitting, usually with something). The one verse in the Qur’an that mentions this—Surah 4:34—has to be read in its entirety and understood in Arabic.
Islam actually prohibits men from hitting women, except in one very limited case when the wife is continuously rebellious and disobedient—not when she disobeys one request—and only as a last resort after all else fails. The husband should first admonish her, then abandon her bed if she continues to be rebellious, and only if those steps have failed then he may hit, not beat, her. The earliest commentators understood that the hitting was to be light enough not to leave a mark and should be done with nothing bigger than a miswak (tooth stick).
Also, Muslims are instructed to follow the exemplary model of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who was known to have never hit his wives, servants, or even an animal. Consequently, a Muslim husband does not have the right to beat his wife!
so, in some cases a husband may use some light disciplinary action in order to correct the moral infraction of his wife, but this is only applicable in extreme cases and it should be resorted to if one is sure it would improve the situation. However, if there is a fear that it might worsen the relationship or may wreak havoc on him or the family, then he should avoid it completely.

2.The phrase ‘because of that by which Allah has favored one over another’ means because of that through which Allah has favored men over their wives, since men must give them their marriage payment (mahr) and spend of their wealth to support them, and save them their pains and effort: that is the favoring of Allah, Most Blessed and Exalted, of men over women, and is why they have become caretakers of them who have authority over them regarding those of their affairs that Allah has given them charge of.

i prefered to give u the answer from scholars to be more clear , islam believe me is the only religion that preserved woman rights and made her in almost all cases equal in rights to man , so
